Avos vs Perplexity

Avos News vs Perplexity for your daily news digest

Perplexity answers with citations and can run scheduled news digests through Computer's Automations. Avos News emails you one designed briefing from sources you choose. An honest comparison, and when Perplexity is the better pick.

Can Perplexity send you a daily news digest? Yes. Automations in Perplexity Computer run a prompt on a schedule and notify you in the app, by push or by email, with cited sources. Avos News is a dedicated briefing: agents read the sources you pick and email one designed newsletter at your time, with market data and no repeats.

Full disclosure: Avos is our product. Every Perplexity fact below comes from Perplexity's own help center, blog and changelog, linked, and we say where Perplexity is the better tool. Of the four big assistants, it is the one built closest to news.

What does Perplexity offer for the news?

Perplexity started as an answer engine, and that shapes everything it does with the news.

Cited answers. Perplexity searches the web and answers with numbered citations that link to the original sources, so you can check a claim in one click.

Discover. A curated feed of trending topics, deep dives and fresh perspectives, written as Perplexity Pages. It's a good way to browse what's big today.

Finance. Perplexity's finance pages have had price alerts since July 2025: set a target price or an intraday move on an asset, and get an email or a push notification when it's hit.

Automations in Computer. Computer is Perplexity's agent, available to Pro and Max subscribers. In September 2026 Perplexity added Automations for ongoing work, which replace its earlier scheduled tasks. According to the help article on Automations in Computer:

  • Schedules run from every 15 or 30 minutes to hourly, daily at a set time, on weekdays, weekly, monthly or on a custom cadence. Automations can also start on events in Slack, Gmail, Outlook, Linear or GitHub.
  • You choose how you hear about results: in the app (the default), mobile push, web push or email, under Settings > Notifications.
  • When a run finds nothing new, Computer stays quiet.
  • Each run uses Computer credits, and a run is skipped if your account is out of credits when it's due.

Perplexity's announcement adds that Automations carry memory of prior runs, so a recurring job can compare today's findings with the last ones.

That is a strong toolkit. If you want a news digest from an assistant, Perplexity is the most natural fit of the four.

What does Avos do differently?

Avos is not an assistant with a scheduler. It is a newsletter you design once, then receive. You describe it to an AI editor in chat, and it builds an edition from sections: the news on your beat, briefs on the articles that matter, market data for your watchlist, AI-written analysis, your portfolio. Each section has its own sources, filters, tone, format and language. The editor's settings stay visible and editable, so the rules of your briefing are written down where you can read them.

It arrives by email at your time and in your timezone, daily, on the weekdays you pick, or monthly, and can be read on the web.

Behind it, Avos's data engine reads more than the open web:

  • Markets: stocks, ETFs, commodities, forex, US economic indicators and company news from Alpha Vantage, crypto prices from CoinGecko, and the market's odds of a Fed rate hike or cut at the next meeting.
  • News: wide international coverage from across the web: global news from NewsAPI.ai, curated topics, news searches on any topic in the language and region you set, live web search, AI search, and any RSS feed you choose.
  • Voices: posts on X from accounts or searches, YouTube channels with what is said in the videos, and podcast episodes.
  • Research and deals: new papers from arXiv and PubMed, and startup funding rounds with their stages and investors.

The same engine powers the free trackers, built on WHO, ECDC, NOAA, USGS, GDACS, EPPO, the World Bank and the US Treasury.

Each section also remembers the stories it sent you in recent issues and skips them, the same story isn't repeated across sections of one issue, and a section with nothing new says so instead of padding.

You don't give up the models you like, either. Avos isn't tied to one AI company: on paid plans each AI section can write with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and others, the model families behind the big assistants. What changes is what the model reads, the shape it writes in, and where the result lands.

When is Perplexity the better choice?

  • You want answers with sources, fast. For "what happened with X?" a cited answer in seconds beats waiting for tomorrow's issue.
  • You need to check often. An automation can run every 15 minutes and stay quiet until something changes. An Avos briefing arrives once per edition, and its alerts check on a schedule set by your plan.
  • You want the news to start other work. Automations can react to Slack, Gmail, Outlook, Linear or GitHub events and do more than summarize.
  • You like to browse. Discover is a good way to see what's trending without setting anything up.
  • One-off research. A question you need answered once belongs in a search, not in a standing edition.

When is Avos the better choice?

  • You want a newsletter, not a session. The whole issue lands in your inbox, laid out to be read in a few minutes, with sections that stay in the same place every day. See a real one in The Daily Brief or War & Conflict.
  • You want to own the source list. An automation searches afresh each run. An Avos section reads only the feeds you set, including RSS feeds, X accounts and YouTube channels.
  • You follow markets every day. Prices and daily changes for your watchlist sit next to the news that moved them, in every issue. See the market briefing. Data may be delayed and is not investment advice.
  • You want alerts with a condition in plain words. News monitoring checks each new story against a sentence you write and tells you why it matched; price alerts also watch US economic indicators such as inflation or unemployment, and combined alerts mix news and price conditions.
  • You want to listen to your briefing. Anchor Mode reads your issue like a news anchor and answers questions as you go.
  • Other people read it. Send your briefing to a team or an audience, or publish it with a public page.

Who should pick which?

Pick Perplexity if you think in questions, want cited answers on demand, or need something checked many times a day. If you already pay for Pro or Max, an automation that emails you a morning digest is a reasonable setup.

Pick Avos if you want the morning news as a finished publication: sources you chose, sections that stay put, markets and alerts built in, emailed at your time, in your language. Avos works in many languages, whatever language the sources are in.

The two fit together: the briefing for coverage, Perplexity for the questions it raises. Our comparisons of ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude cover the other assistants, and the best AI assistant for daily news compares all of them in one table.

FAQ

Can Perplexity email me a daily news digest?

Yes, through Automations in Perplexity Computer, which is on the Pro and Max plans. Set an automation to run daily at a set time and choose email under Settings > Notifications; each run uses Computer credits (checked on 6 November 2026). Discover, Perplexity's curated feed of trending topics, is for browsing rather than a scheduled digest.

Is Avos a good Perplexity alternative for news?

For a daily briefing, yes. Avos sends one designed edition from sources you choose, with market data, plain-language alerts and a memory of what it already sent you. For quick cited answers and one-off research, Perplexity is the better tool, and the two work well together.

Which AI models does Avos use?

Models from several companies. On paid plans you pick the model each AI section writes with: GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and others. So you can keep the model you like and add what Avos brings around it: your sources, the data engine, the schedule, the design and the delivery.

Which is better for stock market news?

It depends on the job. Perplexity's finance pages and price alerts are good for checking an asset on demand. Avos puts your whole watchlist's prices and daily changes next to the news behind them in every issue, and its price alerts also cover US economic indicators. Neither is investment advice.

Is Avos free?

Avos has a free plan, and paid plans with a monthly credit allowance that briefings, alerts and Anchor Mode draw from. Current prices are on the pricing page.
