To get the YouTube channels and podcasts you follow summarized in one daily email, you can turn on YouTube's and your podcast app's notifications, summarize videos and episodes one at a time with transcript tools, build a Zapier automation with an AI step, or add YouTube channels and a podcast search to a daily Avos briefing.
This is for people who follow more channels and shows than they have hours for. One note up front: Avos follows YouTube channels one by one, but searches podcasts by topic across shows; it doesn't follow one specific podcast. A section below says what to do instead. Full disclosure: Avos is our product. Facts about the other products come from their own help pages, linked below.
What do YouTube and podcast apps send you on their own?
Alerts that something is new, not what was said.
YouTube. The bell on each channel you subscribe to has three settings (help): All, for "mobile, web, or inbox notifications for long-form uploads and live streams"; Personalized, for "some uploads, Shorts, and live streams"; and None. YouTube also caps them: "Viewers get a maximum of 3 upload and live stream notifications from each channel in a 24-hour period" (help). The closest thing to a daily digest is the app's scheduled digest, which "combines all daily push notifications" into "just one daily digest notification" at a time you choose. It's off by default, and with it on "you may not see a live stream until after it has ended" (help). YouTube's email settings cover your activity and product and creator updates; the help page doesn't describe an email of new uploads.
Apple Podcasts. You can turn notifications on for any show you follow; on a Mac, choose Account, then Account Settings, then Notifications (Apple Support).
Both tell you something is out. Then you still have to watch or listen.
Which tools summarize a video or an episode?
Several, one item at a time:
- YouTube's transcript. "In the video description, click Show transcript", available for "any video that has captions" (help).
- Gemini. Ask it to find videos on a topic, then "Summarize the first video". You need to be signed in with Keep Activity on (Gemini Apps Help).
- Apple Podcasts transcripts. Expand the player and tap the Transcript button. "If the Transcript button is greyed out, transcripts are not available for that episode" (Apple Support).
- Snipd calls itself "The Podcast App for Knowledge Seekers": AI summaries before you listen, AI chapters, and transcripts you can "Read along and search" with speaker identification (snipd.com). It has a free version.
These are good for going deeper on one video or episode. None of these tools sends you a daily email of everything new.
Can you automate a daily summary email with Zapier?
Yes, if you're happy to build it. A Zap can start from YouTube's "New Video in Channel" trigger, which fires "when a new video is published to a specific YouTube channel" (YouTube on Zapier), or from RSS by Zapier's "New Item in Feed" on a podcast's RSS feed (RSS on Zapier). An AI by Zapier step summarizes each item with your prompt, Digest by Zapier collects the summaries from several Zaps into one batch released daily, weekly or monthly, and an email step sends it.
Three catches, from Zapier's own pages:
- It needs a paid plan. "On a Free plan, you cannot add tools or publish a Zap with an AI by Zapier step." Professional starts at $19.99 a month billed annually, for 750 tasks (pricing).
- AI steps use extra tasks. The default Premium tier counts 5 tasks per run, Standard 1.
- It summarizes what it's given. The AI step reads the fields earlier steps pass on. If the trigger passes a title and description, that's what gets summarized, not what's said in the video or episode. To summarize what is said, add a step that fetches a transcript before the AI step, and check what each step really provides.
How do the options compare?
Checked on 6 November 2026 against YouTube Help on notifications, the scheduled digest, emails and transcripts, Apple Support on podcast notifications and transcripts, Gemini Apps Help, Snipd's site, and Zapier's YouTube and RSS pages, AI by Zapier and Digest help, and pricing.
| Option | What you get | How it reaches you | Cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube notifications | An alert per new upload, or one scheduled digest of the day's push notifications | Push and inbox in the YouTube app | Part of the app | Channels you watch in full |
| Podcast app notifications | An alert per new episode of shows you follow | Notifications from Apple Podcasts | Part of the app | Shows you listen to in full |
| Transcripts and summaries (YouTube, Gemini, Apple Podcasts, Snipd) | The words of one video or episode, or a summary on request | You open each one | In the apps; Gemini needs sign-in; Snipd has a free version | Going deeper on one item |
| Zapier with AI by Zapier | Your own summary of each new video or episode, batched into one email | Email, daily, weekly or monthly | Professional plan needed for the AI step, from $19.99 a month billed annually | People who like building workflows |
| Avos News | A summary of what is said in each new video from channels you add; podcast passages on topics you name (a topic search, not a followed show); news, RSS and X alongside | One email at your hour; also on the web | Free Starter plan; YouTube feeds add no credits, podcast search does when it finds episodes, see pricing | YouTube channels and podcast topics in one email with the news |
How does Avos put YouTube and podcasts in one email?
An Avos newsletter is built from sections, and each News section reads the feeds you pick. Two feed kinds cover video and audio:
- YouTube channel: a channel's latest videos, added by @handle or channel link. The section summarizes what is said in each video. It's free and counts toward the section's feed limit, which your plan sets.
- Podcast search: what was said on podcasts about a topic, found by searching podcast transcripts, with the passages where it came up. It counts toward the feed limit and uses credits each time the section generates, only when it finds episodes.
Other sections can carry the rest: a news search on any topic, curated topics, RSS feeds, and X accounts or an X search, which use extra credits each time they run (daily X digest). The issue arrives as one email at the hour you pick, in your timezone, and every past issue is in the app. It can be written in around 50 languages. On paid plans, Anchor Mode reads an issue aloud like a news anchor and takes your follow-up questions. Where an AI news briefing gets its facts covers every feed kind.
What if you want one specific podcast?
Avos doesn't follow a single show's episodes, and it doesn't transcribe a podcast's own feed. Podcast search works by topic, across podcasts. Three things work instead:
- If the show is on YouTube, add its channel. You get a summary of what was said in each new video.
- Search the show's subjects. A podcast search on what the show covers returns passages from any podcast that discussed it, which may or may not include that show.
- Keep the show's notifications on in your podcast app, and let Avos cover the rest.
How do you set it up in Avos?
- Describe it to the AI editor. "Every weekday at 7: summaries of new videos from @NASA and two channels I'll paste, what podcasts said about battery storage, and the news on it." The editor builds the sections.
- Check the YouTube section. In its Feeds settings, each channel is a YouTube channel feed, by @handle or link.
- Add the podcast search with a plain topic, such as "battery storage" or "AI agents in production".
- Write a filter in plain words: "Skip trailers and channel announcements."
- Add the news in another section: a news search on the same topic, RSS feeds, X accounts. To add a site's RSS feed, see how to find a website's RSS feed.
- Schedule it daily, weekly on the weekdays you choose, or monthly, at your time and in your timezone. Generate an issue now to preview it.
For one thing you're waiting for, a news alert can watch a YouTube channel or a podcast search with a condition written in plain words. An alert reads the video descriptions, not what is said in the videos.
When is another option the better choice?
- You watch everything a channel posts. The YouTube bell tells you about each upload, no summary needed.
- You want to dig into one episode. Snipd or Apple Podcasts transcripts for audio, Gemini or YouTube's transcript for a video.
- You need one specific podcast summarized every time. A Zapier workflow on that show's feed, if you can get the episode's words into the AI step, or a podcast app with summaries.
- You want to own every step. Zapier lets you pick the trigger, the prompt and the email.
- You want the new videos and episodes listed, not summarized. A digest tool such as Mailbrew puts new YouTube videos in one scheduled email with your other sources (Avos vs Mailbrew).
FAQ
Can YouTube email me when channels I follow post new videos?
YouTube's help pages describe push and inbox notifications and a scheduled digest that bundles a day's push notifications into one, but not an email of new uploads. For an email, use an automation such as Zapier or a briefing such as Avos.
Does Avos summarize what is said in a video, or just the description?
In a newsletter section, what is said in each video. In an alert, Avos reads the video descriptions.
Can Avos follow one specific podcast?
No. Podcast search finds what was said about a topic across podcasts, with the passages. If the show publishes on YouTube, add its channel instead.
How much does it cost in Avos?
The Starter plan is free, and every feed kind is on every plan. YouTube channel feeds add no credits of their own; a podcast search uses credits each time it finds episodes; each issue uses credits from your plan's allowance. The pricing page has the details.
Can I mix YouTube, podcasts, X and news in one email?
Yes. Each section has its own feeds, so one issue can open with your channels, then podcast passages, then X and the news, at the hour you pick.
